Dead Rising 2:
This was actually the first game i pre-ordered, and went to the midnight release for... what a dumb-ass i am. I haven't even been half way through the game yet, and i'm putting it back in it's CD case. The game is entirely based on time, 3 days (game time) which is probably 10 hours play time. Although i loved the idea of crafting hundreds of weapons with duck-tape.. this game failed me miserably.. heath my warning!

I'm sure I'm not the only one that bought Guitar Hero in anticipation of your kid starting a rock band. Flash forward to reality to find out big buttons and strum-bars don't equate to precision finger placement and plucking of strings. The only part of that vision that came true was that your kid would eventually beat you at the game. Rock Band 3 hopes to truly bridge the gap between game and guitarist with a Pro mode. No Cartman, real guitars aren't just for old people.

For those of you who have a PS3, i've been gaming with a clan based out of California, with member's worldwide.. you can view their website at www.thesickclan.com. | Quake III Arena Beowulf Server Running |
|

I finally figured out a working configuration for the Quake III Arena server. It seems you need to input the IP address in the config (duh). It's at ozscloset.dyndns.org (IP 72.16.238.100). The server is running on the same box as the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars server but seems to run pretty smooth. The T1 line it's on isn't the fastest, but it is pretty consistent. Before you join, you'll see bots battling it out. However, the bots disconnect when a human joins. I think that's a function of PunkBuster and not the setup.

I got the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars server going for Clan Beowulf last night. You can find it at ozscloset.dyndns.org (IP 72.16.238.100). I'm a ET:QW noob-born baby, so I provided little challenge for the few that popped on the server. I spent most of my time checking for lag, setting my controls and figuring out what all the classes and weapons do. I think I may have done better if I played for the Humans. I know what a human wrench looks like. The Strogg thing I was holding could have been a wrench or a cannon.

I'm back from QuakeCon 2010. It's about what I figured it would be. I'd say the average age was 19. So I'm bridging that at 43 and the boys I drug there are 12. On they way there, the boys ask, so what is this QuakeCon thing? I said it is simply a celebration of Quake. So they ask, "What's Quake." This is going to be a long day.

It's been a long time coming, but I'm going to QuakeCon. It's funny how we don't do things for ourselves, but will do things for others. Over the summer, I've been taking neighborhood boys to the local rec center to show them how to weight train properly. Well, I saw a billboard here in Dallas about QuakeCon. It's frankly embarrassing that throughout all of my Quake years, I never went to Quake con. Now that I have the opportunity to take a new generation... here I go. More reports to follow. Maybe I'll tweet about them.

| EA shutting down game servers prematurely |
|

One of the problems of having dedicated servers run by the game maker is they determine when the server should be shut down. Take a moment and think where Clan Beowulf would be without its Quake 2, Quake 3 and Battlefield servers. In EA's defense, their game servers have always been available and well managed. Apparently the cost of running quality servers is having an impact. It's expected servers will be shut down at some time but read on for the shocking list of recent titles that will be shut down. On another note, why wouldn't you just scale down the number of servers to accommodate demand or lack thereof?

The BF series is going back to it's roots with a modern graphics engine and revamped maps. In-game menuing and game-play looks to be dumbed down a bit, or maybe I should say arcadish. Hopefully there will be options to hide floating icons. I mean, do you really need a floating icon to tell you there's a 30 foot plane in front of you? It just distracts from the realizm. Checkout the official news release and in-game action in the Read More. - Chip
