 I.
The Clan Leader
The Elders
and
The Council of Elders.
Introduction:
The Name Beowulf: The Beowulf Clan is named from the oldest of the great long poems written in English. It was composed more than twelve hundred years ago in what would be the Midlands of England today. The writing itself is English in language and origin, but it deals not with native Englishmen, but with their Germanic forebears, especially with two south Scandinavian tribes, the Danes and the Geats, who lived on the Danish island of Zealand and in southern Sweden, respectively. It is a poem of heroic bravery and the search of Honor through self sacrifice and bravery. It hinges on the concept of the Germanic word "Weird," pronounced Veird and originally spelled Wyrd. The word has to do with what we call Fate, but it is a bit more enigmatic than our concept of the word Fate. Within the structure of the Beowulf Poem the Weird of a man can be changed by the heroic bravery shown at a given moment. The society of that time was a warrior society of the kind described by the Roman historian Tacitus at the end of the first century in his book The Germania. In the warrior society, the values of which the poem constantly invokes, the most important of human relationships was that which existed between the warrior -called the thane - and his lord, a relationship based not on the subordination of one man's will to another's, but on mutual trust and respect bound to the common goal of the protection of the Clan. When a warrior vowed loyalty to his lord or Clan, he became not so much a servant as a voluntary companion, one who would take pride in defending his lord and Clan and fight in wars for the common good of the Clan. In return, the lord, as head of the Clan, was expected to take affectionate care of his thanes and to reward them rightly for their valor. A good lord was referred to as "protector of warriors", and "dispenser of treasure" or "the ring giver." The relationship between the lord and the thane was friendship, loyalty, and trust based upon Valor and honor for the good of the Clan. The quote most appropriate for the Beowulf Clan from the Old English text is set by this writer to be "Let him who may get glory before death; that is best for the warrior after he has gone from life."
You may access and read the poem here.
Clan Leader: The Beowulf Clan Leader is DreaDwarD who started, named, and has maintained the Clan since its conception when it originally met at Hunter1.com. DreaDwarD and Plaz currently own the Server, Beowulf, at Simplynet.net on which the Beowulf Clan primarily games at this time.
Elders: The first members to join and stay are the Charter Members hereafter called the Elders. The Clan has grown to a size that structure changes and delegation of authority will be implemented for the betterment of the Clan, better gaming, and to provide a forum to resolve issues that deal with the Clan. This structure will provide Clan members a voice in Clan matters and provide each Beowulf Member the opportunity and support group to assist them in starting their own Clan. This Constitution will provide a place where members can form a Clan with the benefits of an already existing Clan structure. The Beowulf Clan will in essence become a parent Clan to its Member's Clans and will sponsor the newly formed Clans.
The Clan has twelve Elders that are the Charter Members of the Beowulf Clan [Sometimes Known as The Dirty Dozen]. They have been with the Clan from early in its conception. These members are listed alphabetically below and their names are bracketed with * * on the membership list in section III. of this document under Clan Members:
The Elders will upon implementation of this Constitution make final policy decisions based upon the recommendations provided by the Council of Elders.
If an Elder does not vote on an issue, it will be considered assumed consent that the majority of those that do vote represent the majority. Therefore, if only three Elders vote and two vote for the recommendation and one against the two votes carry the majority and the recommendation will pass.
All Elders must be notified by email of an upcoming vote
All Elders must be notified by email of the time-limit to receive the vote (given by dates),
All Elders must be notified by email on the result of the vote.
Email Notification is only necessary to those Elders with email addresses that are current and working at the time of the email transmission.
If it is felt by at least three Elders that a vote has been pushed through, or that they were cut out of the decision making process, those three may call for a re-vote with their vote included. A re-vote must include all Elders that are reachable by email notification.
B. The Council of Elders will be made up of six persons
Five of the Council will be from the Elders and one from the membership.
There will be at least one female member on the Council, and there will be at least one member that is not an Elder that will represent the next generation.
What the Council decides will be recommended to the Elders who will by majority vote approve or disapprove the recommendations.
The Clan Leader will always be on the Council of Elders. Clan Leader, has a line item veto on all issues.
In the Event that DreaDwarD is no longer available to be Clan Leader, the Elders will determine a new Clan Leader by majority vote of the Elders. The Council of Elders will take nominations from the Elders and submit those nominations for vote to the Elders. DreaDwarD recommends BludNgorE as the Next Clan Leader, and ask BludNgorE to act in the current Clan leader absence. But, Majority vote rules.
If a member of the Council of Elders who is not an Elder can no longer serve the Clan membership, members other than the Elders will choose a representative to replace the one leaving.
On issues that require immediate decisions the Council may decide, but Beowulf server rules and amendment to this Constitution must be approved by a majority vote of the Elders.

Structure
A. Introduction:
The Clan is currently a member of the Quake Clan Ring and a member of the FvF Quake Clan Ring. Independent members currently play CTF and FvF, and the Beowulf Clan will have a CTF Clan division. To implement this, time will be dedicated on the Beowulf Server for CTF play. The FvF and CTF division will be headed by Two division leaders. FvF division will be headed by DreaDwarD and the CTF division will be headed by BludNgorE. A Beowulf Clan member may be a member of both divisions. The Division Heads will make recommendations to the Council of Elders on FvF or CTF mods and when they will run. These recommendations will then be considered and approved or disapproved by the Elders.

Independent Members:
The Clan has always been made up of independent members. All members will retain their independent membership in the Beowulf Clan, and may remain an independent member. No individual has to join a Wulf Pack Clan, and no member is forced to Form a Wulf Pack Clan. Independent members may continue to form Wulf Packs and may raid other servers with the established guidelines of having a Pack leader that has experience on a Raid and knows about how to set up a Raid. Independent members may fill in for absent members of an organized Wulf Pack in a Wulf Pack battle if a Wulf Pack has members who cannot attend with approval from four Elders.
Wulf Packs
Wulf Packs have long been a part of the Beowulf heritage, but until now they have been unstructured. As of the adoption of this Constitution by the Council of Elder and the approval of the Elders The Wulf Packs can now become the Beowulf Wulf Pack Clans operating within the structure of the Beowulf Clan, but they will be independent Clans with all of the functions and freedom of other Clans except each Wulf Pack Clan will have the support of the Beowulf Clan's Clan-Ring System.
The Beowulf Clan membership will now support:
A. Eight Wulf Packs with five members each. And/or
B. Five Wulf Packs with eight members each. And/or
C. Nine Wulf Packs with four members each. And/or
D. A minimum Wulf Pack, to start, will be an absolute minimum of 4 members.
E. A full Wulf Pack will be an absolute maximum of eight members.
F. Any member that has been with the Clan for a minimum of six weeks may form a Wulf Pack within the clan with four members of the Beowulf Clan.
G. Members may be in a CTF and FvF Wulf Pack simultaneously.
Wulf Pack Rules and Regulations
1. Each Wulf Pack is a legitimate Clan and will be a part of the Beowulf Clan Ring having server privileges on all Beowulf Servers.
2. Only Wulf Pack Clans will have rights to use the Beowulf Servers for their matches and game play.
3. Wulf Pack leaders may not have a Clan outside of the Beowulf Clan Wulf Pack Clan.
4. Independent members that have a Clan outside of the Beowulf Wulf Pack Clans will not be able to use the Beowulf Servers for the Clan that is not a part of the Wulf Pack Clans.
5. Wulf Pack Clan Pages must have a Beowulf Clan Ring Logo on their WulfPack Clan Ring page, and should be updated monthly.
6. Each Wulf Pack Clan may make their own rules for their Wulf Pack and play anywhere against anybody they decide, and may use any mods they like, as long as the Wulf Pack Clan guidelines do not conflict with the guidelines of the Beowulf Clan..
7. A Wulf Pack Clan may decide the criteria by how members are chosen and added to that specific Wulf Pack
8. They may add members from outside the Clan by approving the new member by majority vote of the Wulf Pack and submitting the new Wulf Pack member's information to the Beowulf Clan.
9. New Wulf Pack members must agree to abide by the rules of the Wulf Pack and the rules of The Beowulf Clan.
10. A Wulf Pack may name itself.
11. Once a Wulf Pack Clan reaches Maximum Members, eight, it may make a separate Wulf Pack Clan and divide into two Clans.
12. A member may be removed from a Wulf Pack by a majority vote of the other members of that Wulf Pack. Removal and the reason for removal will be reported to the Council of Elders. If it is a violation of Basic Beowulf Rules the member will be excluded from the Beowulf Clan or disciplinary action appropriate to the offense will be implemented. If it is a personality conflict between members. The member may stay in the Beowulf Clan and apply to other Wulf Packs for membership.
13. Wulf Packs may challenge other Wulf Packs to Clan Battles. Wulf Pack Battles will be scheduled and held according to the rules set down by the Council of Elders. Within the existing rules of the Beowulf Clan the Wulf Packs may establish their own rules and regulations to augment existing rules as long Wulf Pack Clan Rules no not violate the Beowulf Clan Rules.
14. Wulf Packs that agree to have a battle must first agree on the Times and the server the battle is to be held on, and then submit that information to Clan leader or a member of the Council of Elders.
15. An individual that starts a Wulf Pack Clan must have been sanctioned by the Council of Elders and therefore can only be removed by the Council of Elders. Members of a Wulf Pack Clan cannot directly remove the leader of their Clan, but the members of the Wulf Pack Clan are also member of the Beowulf Clan and they can file a grievance with the Council of Elders and/or the Clan Leader stating the violations that their Wulf Pack Clan Leader has committed against Beowulf Rules and/or Wulf Pack Clan rules. It is recommended that disgruntled members simply quit that Wulf Pack and find another. But, violations by any member of the Beowulf Clan of Beowulf Rules can cause disiplinary action and/or expulsion, and possible removal of an individual from the position of a Wulf Pack Clan Leader.
16. Members of a Wulf Pack that want a Wulf Pack leader to be removed must submit to the Council of Elders a list of grievances against a Wulf Pack leader to have that leader removed as Wulf Pack leader. Only the Councel of Elders can remove a Wulf Pack Leader and only for violation of Beowulf Rules, Regulations, or the Honor Code.
17. Grievances must be blatant and verifiable violations of Wulf Pack Rules or Beowulf Clan Rules. The Council of Elders will need Proof and/or testimony of at least four Wulf Pack members.
18. Members of a Wulf Pack may quit a Wulf Pack and may continue to retain their membership in Beowulf as an independent member and have the choice to join another Clan if accepted.
19. Members who quit a Wulf Pack may join another Wulf Pack, but may not play in a Clan or Wulf Pack Battle as a representative of the new Wulf Pack for three weeks.
20. Members of Beowulf do not have to belong to a Wulf Pack to be a member of Beowulf. Each Wulf Pack will be a Clan, but Beowulf is also a Clan and all members of the Wulf Pack Clans are automatically members of the Beowulf Clan. But one can be an independent member of the Beowulf Clan as we all are at the time of this Constitution.
Obtaining New membership in the Beowulf Clan will be (1) through joining a Wulf Pack and meeting their criteria and the Beowulf criteria, or (2) through sponsorship by two Independent members, or (3) by being brought directly in by any individual Elder as a sponser.
21. A member must have been a member of the Beowulf Clan for a minimum of six weeks before they may start a Wulf Pack Clan.
22. A Wulf Pack may be a single Class of characters such as all ninja, or it may be mixed classes. A person starting a Wulf Pack may want specific classes like one ninja, one fighter, one Monk, one Quake soldier, etc. and that is acceptable. A member can have an all female Clan. What ever structure an individual wants to form their Clan in should be fine. Structure of the Wulf Pack is up to the leader and members of that Wulf Pack..
23. A Wulf Pack may be a member of the CTF division and the FvF division.
24. Members may only be a member of one CTF Wulf pack at a time.
25. Members may only be a member of one FvF Wulf pack at a time.
26. To start a Wulf Pack a member will submit a request to start a Wulf Pack to Clan Leader DreaDwarD who will submit it to the Council of Elders. Once submitted and approved, the individual may seek to add members to that Wulf Pack from within the Clan membership until a minimum of four Beowulf Clan members are a part of that Wulf Pack at which time the Wulf Pack can go outside of the Clan membership to add more members. Members cannot be added to the Wulf Pack Clan from outside of the Beowulf Clan Membership four (4) members are enlisted from within the Beowulf Clan membership.
27. Beowulf Clan members may be a members of another Clan outside of Beowulf, but in the event of a Clan battle between the two Clans that member may not participate in the battle due to the obvious conflict of interest.
28. A member who is a member of a Quake Clan involved in CTF or FvF outside of their Beowulf Clan membership may not be on the Council of Elders or be a Wulf Pack Leader unless the reasons are presented to the Council of Elders and approved by the Council of Elders and/or the Clan Leader. (Does not require Elder approval).
28. A member that is a member of a CTF Wulf Pack and a different FvF Wulf Pack who decide to fight in either division may not participate in the battle because of conflict of interest.
29. Each Wulf Pack may have a Wulf Pack Clan Page on the Beowulf Server at Simplynet.net, and Diceman, owner of Atoka.net has stated that Wulf Pack Clans may also have free space for their Clan Page on his server www.atoka.net. In fact A Beowulf Wulf Pack Clan may have a page on both servers.
30. Each Wulf Pack may be open for membership to the general public through their personal contacts and their Web Page on Beowulf once they have filled the four member status of starting the Wulf Pack from within the Beowulf Membership. {if after a Wulf Pack Clan starts with four members and a couple of members leave, leaving the Clan with only two members, they may go outside the membership to add new members. The did start with four members from within the Clan}.
31. Issues dealing with the Wulf Packs that need to be voted on by the Wulf Packs will be presented to the Wulf Pack leader who will present the issue to the Wulf pack and their individual structure of decision making will determine how the Wulf Pack leader votes.
32. A Wulf Pack fighting an outside Clan is the Representative of the Beowulf Clan, The Beowulf Clan Ring, and the Wulf Pack leader is the Beowulf Clan Ambassador during that conflict.
MaxPacks
1. MaxPacks will be the representative Clan Teams in major Clan Battles.
2. There will be three ways to form a MaxPack: (1) champions from each Wulf Pack (2) An Elder may put together a MaxPack (3) Through a battle determining the best players.
3. The Clan Leader may choose what he believes to be the best players from among the membership to represent the Clan.
4. Any Elder may choose what he believes to be the best players from among the membership to represent the Clan in a battle setup by that Elder.
5. The Wulf Packs can each provide a Champion from their Individual Pack to represent the Clan.
6. When there are more Wulf Packs than team members needed the chosen members will fight it out and those with the highest fragg count and lowest rate of being killed will be chose to represent the Clan.
7. The Independent players will also choose a champion to represent them in Clan battle.

2. Any Elder can sponsor and bring a new member in at anytime as long as the new member agrees to abide by the rules of the Beowulf Honor Code.

Player and Clan Conduct
1. Bots - NO bots are allowed, no exceptions, if a player uses bots, he risk immediate expulsion, no questions asked.
2. Wulf Pack Raids - A Wulf Pack should consist of at least 4 Clan Members. Non-Clan-Members may not go on a raid with a Wulf Pack. A raiding WulfPack must have a Pack Leader; Pack Leaders MUST have been in the clan for a minimum of 6 weeks and must have participated in WulfPack Raids under an experience WulfPack Leader.
3. Rumors - Rumors are discouraged among all clan members, this will go by honor. Please discourage others from starting or spreading nasty rumors, this is totally dishonorable and causes our clan great harm in the views of others. Simple rule, just don't do it.
4. Lewd Language and Slurs- Language is an issue facing many clans recently. Intolerable lewd language will NOT be tolerated, an occasional slip is no problem, but scrolling messages over and over with unacceptable language will result in Clan Expulsion. There will be players of the fairer sex involved in the games, and lewd remarks will NOT be tolerated. This is not to discourage remarks made in fun. Diceman recently called Shag "Forrest GumP", but it was not to incite a verbal fight; it was done in fun. This writer has "run weenie run" scripted and bound to a key, but I don't use it on newbies or visitor since they don't necessarily know the spirit it is sent in, and I want them to come back so I can Frag them some more. Keep it in fun; a cuss fight will be frowned upon from above. And someone up there in Quake can "kick" and "ban." Not pretty words in the Quake World.
5. Sexual Harassment: Flirting is limited to friendly mutual exchanges that are innocent in nature such as asking for their email. If they wish to give it out Great. If they don't want to give it out or have anything to do with you but Frag ya into iddy-biddy bits, then Tooooo Bad. Harassing them for their email address or attention will cost the offender a temporary banning from the server. If repeated, banishment from the Clan. Sexual Harassment will NOT be tolerated.
6. Name calling: Name calling in order to incite a verbal exchange of anger is prohibited. If you're mad, Frag them, Gib them. Show your stuff with your FvF weapons. Comments in fun are encouraged.
7. Slurs of ANY type are STRICTLY prohibited. ANY kind of slur related to sex, race, age, sexual alignment, physical disabilities, physical appearance, religion, etc is totally dishonorable and will NOT be tolerated. Repeated violations within will result in Banishment and this will be enforced strictly and unconditionally.
***People play FvF to have fun, this Clan and the FvF Clan league is based on the concept of teamwork and enjoyment, if there is a time and a place for everything, the FvF league is not one of those times or places. If you take things so personally that the only way you can vent your insecurity and inexperience is to slander someone else, maybe you should play another game somewhere else, this will NOT be tolerated within the Beowulf Clan or in FvF Clan league play.
8. Clan Matches: If we finally do lose a match, then we lose. Starting a verbal barrage of unacceptable language or slurs after a match is over is also strictly prohibited. Be the example of Honor to other Clans when we play.
If we lose, take it honorably, accept it and prepare for the next match
9. Camping: Unlike many groups in the Quake Community Camping and Sniping is acceptable practice within Beowulf. Newbies need some frags too. It is frowned upon to sit over a regeneration point that others appear naked and hardly armed by experience players, and experienced players who must rely upon these tactics lack honor and skill. But, What do you think the sniper and cyborg camper classes were designed for? If you don't like the campers, go kill them, enough said.
10. Delay: A clan match is intended to begin at the time that it was scheduled for, not 15 minutes later. Be there a few minutes early your Clan is counting on you. If a member is continuously late or doesn't show he risk being banned from Clan Battles.
11. Changing Teams during Clan Matches: Not a consideration when the team lock is activated, but if it is not and a player changes teams, that player will be kicked and our team will forfeit that match.
12. Level Jumping: Again this shouldn't be a problem when time limit or frag limit is set in a Clan match, but if by some fluke it isn't, leaving a level before the designated time or frag limit is reached forfeiture of game by the team that jumped will be enforced.
**** In Death Match, Honor and decency dictate that you ask fellow players if they would be willing to change levels. You may hate a level and want to go to another, so a majority vote wins the choice of levels, no matter who is playing including the Clan Leader.
**** To disrupt Game play: This will get you banned, kicked, and regurgitated from the Clan. The Most important part of our rule system is that you have maximum fun without disturbing the fun of others. Now that does not mean that Fragging them unmercifully until you hear the crying and lamentations of their sweet grandmothers is not alright and encouraged, but to disrupt game play and take away other right to vote on levels is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. This includes using the Pause button. Bad Bad
13. Refusal of Play: In Clan matches set in the league the Beowulf Clan can not refuse to play another clan do to fear of being beaten, dislike for other clan, etc. If a clan refuses to play a match, they will be forced a forfeit. But if a Clan that we play shows poor sportsmanship and 'slurs' players we will forfeit a game before we play a dishonorable Clan again.

Violations of Clan rules: WHAT TO DO WHEN IT HAPPENS
If there is a level jumper, and there is a group playing, pull down your console when they jump and it will tell who made the jump. In the console type status. Get the offenders game name, their complete IP address and the exact time they are in the dungeon. Warn them. If a barrage of Slurs and insults results get a screen shot of what is said. Use your ctrl/tab key and temporarily leave the game. Contact Link at ICQ #163614883 and/or email Link@clanbeowulf.org or ICQ and/or email members of the Council of Elders the information. Keep an accurate record of the offenders IP address and the times that he/she is on and what is said and done. In most instances it can be handled very quickly. We have never had a problem with a member violating the rules. Problems come from visitors that believe they can come in and raise havoc without any repercussions. Bots are a problem and you need to record the suspected offenders name and complete IP address and the time they are on accurately. If several of these reports are received that individual will simply be continually kicked and banned until they tire of our bot environment. There is no way that the writer knows of verifying a bot, but there are a few things that give some indication. A bot will automatically turn around and attack you when you approach from behind. They seldom miss. They attack all passersby that have shot at them. Many can't see ninjas, so switching to a ninja can be kind of humorous
